The "extreme weather" Crisis Cell met again at 5.30 pm, under the chairmanship of the Minister for Home Affairs, Taina Bofferding, to assess the situation.
Although gusts in excess of 100 km/h have been recorded, the authorities note that the weather has turned out to be less serious than expected.
As a result, the red vigilance "gale warning" was lifted at 6pm. A yellow vigilance will remain in force until midnight. The authorities are continuing to monitor the situation closely.
The teams of the CGDIS and the National Roads Administration had to intervene 49 times in connection with the bad weather. No one was injured.
Traffic disruptions may still occur.
Minister Taina Bofferding expressed the government's gratitude for the good cooperation between the various state entities and thanked the agents and volunteers for their availability and commitment during the last few hours as well as the population for having respected the official instructions.
